Leaked TOPIK Exam Questions Sold Online
Recent reports have revealed a disturbing trend where Chinese brokers are selling leaked questions for the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK). These fraudulent services are being advertised openly on Chinese social media platforms, such as Xiaohongshu, posing a serious threat to the fairness and credibility of the examination.
Methods of Fraud
Brokers use various coded language and deceptive marketing to lure candidates. Common services offered include:
- Pre-Exam Answers: Providing answers for reading and listening sections shortly before the test (options for 6, 8, or 12 hours prior).
- Proxy Testing: Having someone else take the exam on behalf of the candidate.
- Real-time Support: Utilizing ultra-small wireless earphones to provide live answers to candidates during the exam.
Warning: Using these illegal services can lead to severe penalties, including the cancellation of test scores and permanent bans from taking the TOPIK exam.
Financial Cost and Impact
Some of these services are being sold for as much as 7.5 million KRW. Students in Korea have already reported hearing from peers that they memorized leaked answers before the test.
This widespread fraud not only unfairly advantages certain test-takers but also devalues the TOPIK certification, which is essential for many foreigners seeking employment or academic opportunities in South Korea.
